Through this initiative, we wish to contribute to the promotion of spectrography in all its forms among observers of the astronomical sky, by offering a place for the exchange and archiving of spectral data, by proposing user-friendly and high-performance analysis tools, by soliciting professional-amateur collaborations, by organizing events (training courses, videoconferences, etc.), by reflecting on the evolution of equipment...

ARAS and STAROS have different and complementary goals.

ARAS and STAROS are two different things:

- ARAS is a group of observers who contribute to the ARAS database on Novae, Symbiotics, Cataclysmics, etc., but this structure remains informal with no legal framework and therefore cannot receive subsidies or sponsorship.

- STAROS is a non-profit association whose aim is to launch campaigns on specific targets, as we have already done on SS 433, Alf Dra, 10 Lac and Deneb (and there will be more in the future). The association is also developing new tools dedicated to spectroscopy as part of spectro2.0, and needs to find the financial resources to develop these new tools in terms of spectrographs or server platforms or software, which has a cost and so the association can raise funds from private patronage or public subsidies.

The page you're referring to was written over 20 years ago, and things have come a long way since then. ARAS remains an informal group of observers who contribute to spectroscopy on targets such as novaes, symbiotics, cataclysmics, but there are no other actions carried out, notably in the training of new amateurs via on-line workshops or the design of software or new tools to facilitate data processing or new database structures where it is easier to submit a spectrum, check it and share it with others, not to mention the development of new spectroscopes. And for all the above, an informal structure isn't enough, because you need the financial means to achieve the goals we have set

That is just not correct. ARAS is much more than that. There are many examples of this in this forum, development of software tools, design and improvement of spectrographs, data reduction techniques, analysis of spectra, call for observations, running of projects etc. This is all discussed and developed openly. Who is deciding what is the "right way" that will be presented in these STAROS workshops or what campaigns will be run ? It took some time for ARAS to be recognised internationally I do not understand the need to start again. Nobody outside the Sol'Ex forum knows about STAROS.

As far as I can see, STAROS does not even have a discussion forum. To me STAROS seems all one way with little feedback and discussion. Considering how much effort went in to recovering the ARAS forum after the hack would it not at least be useful to use the ARAS forum as a base for STAROS discussions ?
