pi Aqr V/R and EW monitoring

Post by Ernst Pollmann »

As supplement to Valerie´s monthly report, here the evaluation of the current Halpha EW & V/R long-term behavior of pi Aqr. Obviously the EW long-term component is on the way to a minimum. The Halpha-V/R 86day-period does not fit well to the current time behavior of the 2013 measurements.
Period shortening ? Observations during the next months are going to show, whether a shortening of the period will really happen or not. Therefore an active observation participation will be very important!

A little change in the spectra of Pi Aqr since my last spectrum of July the 30th.

The visibility phase of the Be binary star pi Aqr is more or less past, and we can look back on a fantastic collaboration of observation in terms of the V/R and EW measurement (see attachment). We have been able to detect two V/R maxima and minima. Thanks so much to all participants for your contributions.

While the Halpha EW is on the way to its minimum (the primary almost without any disk), the V/R ratio seems in spite of that to have had a growing amplitude (compared with its behavior during the last observation campaign).
I will contact our professional colleagues Anatoly Miroshnichenko and Sergey Zarikov in order to ask, how we have to understand this fact.

Dear colleagues,
please don't forget to observe again the object of the season: pi Aqr.
Particularly interesting seems to be the un-usual strong increase of the Halpha emission!

Disk enlargement of the Be binary pi Aqr ?
Related to the topic above, here a summary of the monitorings since October 2004 (Halpha V/R) and August 1989 (Halpha EW).
Comments are very welcome.

Dear colleagues,
almost at the end of the visibility of the Be binary pi Aqr, here a summary of the V/R periodic behavior.
Compared with our publication in 2013 it confirms the periodicity with 84.25 days. See:

https://astrospectroscopy.de/.cm4all/up ... 8bb4&cdp=a

Thank you all for your observations and spectra which enables to draw this overview. Comments are welcome!!

Dear colleagues,
in supplement to the paper of Yael Naze (New Astronomy 73, 2019, 101279) here an up-dated analysis of Halpha EW and V/R since October 2004

See:
https://astrospectroscopy.de/.cm4all/up ... &cm_odfile

It seems of high interest to monitore the star during the following years in terms of evolution of the Halpha maximum and the beginning of clear V/R activity. At present it is almost impossible to determine V/R because of the balanced density within the disk. But the time will come, when local density differences will appear.

Here is my time lapse of 9 observations of pi aqr h alpha profile with Atik 460 mono C14 Lhires III 2400 l/mm grating from 02-08-2019 to 10-01-2020.

I think this is an effective way of showing changes in spectral profiles over time.

Many thanks to John Paraskeva creator of BASS for his help in creating this animation.

Enjoy,

Jack
