Alpy, Symbiotic star and urban sky

Je m'essaye à faire des spectres d'étoiles symbiotiques et de variables. Dans la mesure du possible (météo et temps libre oblige http://spectro-aras.com/forum/posting.p ... =post&f=10#) j'aimerais les suivre et placer les profils dans la base de données Aras.
L'une d'entre elle (UV AUR) est assez faible et suppose que dans le ciel urbain où j'observe, il n'y ait pas de biais à cause de la pollution lumineuse. Or sur le spectre j'observe une épaisse raie verticale (donc de pollution lumineuse sans doute) correspondant à une large raie spectrale (autour de 5900 A) propre à l'étoile.
Est-ce génant ?

Hello,

I'm trying to make spectra of symbiotic stars and variables. As far as possible (weather and free time) I would like to follow them and place the profiles in the Aras database.
One of them (UV AUR) is quite weak and assumes that in the urban sky where I observe, there is no bias due to light pollution. Now on the spectrum I observe a thick vertical line (thus probably light pollution) corresponding to a broad spectral line (around 5900 A) specific to the star.
Is it annoying?

Lors du traitement, il faut soustraire le fond de ciel que l'on prend au dessus et en dessous du spectre, comme cela tu supprimes la pollution lumineuse (à condition que le spectre de la pollution lumineuse ne sature pas) ce qui semble être le cas sur ton spectre.

Hello Vincent,

Your spectrum looks ok to me. You have subtracted the background well (There are no narrow emission lines in the spectrum). The absorption line in the spectrum is real (NaD). You can see it in other spectra of this star. (Strong interstellar extinction perhaps ?)

The dark line in the sky background at this position is actually where there is no light pollution. The light regions either side are broad emission from high pressure sodium street lamps. You can see it here for example in Christian Buil's spectra of light pollution.

Your overall continuum shape does look different to the other spectra though so there could be a problem with your instrument response correction

Bonjour Vincent,
UV Aur est une symbiotique pour laquelle la geante rouge est une mira carbonnee
La forte raie Na I D en absorption est donc normale
Quand au pseudo continuum, il varie avec la phase de pulsation de la Mira C, il est donc variable a courte echelle de temps

La soustraction de fond de ciel est en effet cochée dans le traitement.
Il s'agit donc, si j'ai bien compris, d'un hasard qui fait se superposer la forte raie Na I D de la mira avec une zone de moindre pollution lumineuse dans le ciel urbain.
J'y retourne ce soir avec la Société Astronomique de Touraine, dans un beau ciel dégagé à 30 km de la zone urbaine.

The sky background subtraction is indeed checked in the treatment.
It is therefore, if I understand correctly, a coincidence that makes superimposed the strong line Na I D of the mira with a zone of less light pollution in the urban sky.
I'm going back tonight with the Astronomical Society of Touraine, in a beautiful clear sky 30 km from the urban area.
