Re: Nonradial pulsations of zeta Oph
Hi Ernst,
Interesting paper, well done.
I am a bit confused by the second sentence: "Whether this mechanism produced the disk around the star, is still the subject of specialized astronomical discussion". Do you mean that NPR is the cause of the disk, or that the NPR are produced IN the disk?
Cheers,
Bernard

Re: Nonradial pulsations of zeta Oph
hi Bernard,
this kind of pulsations are excited from inside the star and are going on for millions of cycles.
There are signs of interaction of the star photosphere with the disk, but there might be also another mechanism for disk forming.
Thomas Rivinius (ESO) did have treated this topic in his habilitation paper in 2005.

Re: Nonradial pulsations of zeta Oph
During four consecutive nights (24.-27.5.12) continuation of observations of the non radial pulsations of zeta Oph.
Results:
1. The Line profiles are more or less strong shaped, by the appearing and disappearing of an "emission" bump between 6575 to 6580 angströms, which moves (not always) uniformly across the line. This "bump" often shows a noticeable asymmetry in the way in which it traverses the profile (see plot of the single spectra).
2. Similar to the efforts of P. Harmanec (Bull. Astron. Inst. Czechol. 40, 1989) an attempt, to find out a correlation of the equivalent width with the 0.643 day period (see plot: EW v. JD, and plot: period analysis). The usage of the PDM methode of the program "AVE" leads to a period 0.65 d.

Re: Nonradial pulsations of zeta Oph
New improved version of the observation report (after consultation by Thomas Rivinius & Myron Smith).
In case of any interest, a topic for discussion during the OHP meeting.
