New UVEX by Shelyak : first light
Here's the prototype of the UVEX by Shelyak, all metal parts.
On this UVEX is fixed :
- The ALPY 600 auto guiding module
- The ALPY 600 calibration module
- A CMOS sensor for science image (ASI 183 MM Pro)
- A CMOS sensor for auto guiding (ASI 174 mini)
With this UVEX, it's very easy to change the grating without opening the spectrograph. You have just to unscrew a large button and change the grating support.
You can have different grating support and change it quickly
For the first light, the UVEX is put on a RC12 at f/8
And the first spectrum on Vega, 21 exposures of 1/2s each.
More to come and some results with an article on the Shelyak website, available soon...

Looks good! Hope we can get custom gratings like Christian did in his prototype to work
with Shelyak Uvex; like the Thorlab 300 l/mm blazed at 1 micron!
Wonder if we can buy it without the calibration&guide module, since I already have an Alpy600 with these.

Of course, the UVEX will be offered alone and can be completed with a autoguiding or calibration module and with several types of grattings.
shelyak is also developing a motorization for the focusing and the wavelength range to be able to remote control the UVEX.

Excellente nouvelle!
Y a t-il une idée de la date de commercialisation ?
Bonne continuation

I had best place a pre-order Olivier - looks like quite an instrument

I had that idea too, but my sudden acquisition of an eShel may put this off financially for awhile!
I may retrofit my lhiresIII for UV with the modified Atik414ex camera; modified with Quartz window for better UV penetration.

Re: New UVEX by Shelyak : first light
I totally get it James - its not a cheap hobby. As my favourite local astro shop owner used to tell me, owning a boat or a racehorse is a much more dangerous pastime.
Are you able to share the details of the replacement sensor window with me? I have looked on the Thorlabs website and can't work out what I need for the Atik 460EX. If I do end up with a UVEX (as I hope), some more sensitivity in the UV would be a bonus.
