Re: Symbiotic recurrent nova RS Oph in ourburst !!!
Hello all,
Finally a clear sky to follow the evolution of the RS Oph outburst !!
Here is my contribution with a spectrum of the Halpha line at high resolution obtained on August 11 at 22 h 26 TU (resolution of 18696, JJ = 2459438.435) with my LHIRES III (grating of 2400 lines / mm, acquisition time of 30 min (3 x 600s)).
More than ever, clear skies to all !!

Bonjour à tous
Un peu de ciel hier soir après des orages dans la journée.
Spectre réalisé avec le spectrographe UVEX(4) G600 750nm RC8 Slit 23µ ...
détails autour de O I 8446
François, si tu à quelques infos sur ce profil ?
Et avec H-Alpha
j'envois le spectre FIT

Having both my Alpy 600 and Lhires III attached to C9.25 via flip mirror I managed to acquire lo and hi res spectra last night (12th). Acquisition time for Alpy working at f/6,90 seconds (9x10sec) and
acquisition time for Lhires 21 minutes (7x180sec) both instruments with 23 micron slit.

Hello,
You can see the general evolution of RS Oph.

Continuum flux level dropping as the magnitude fades, V=4.88, 5.44, 6.24 for the 3 spectra below.
H-alpha now less sharply peaked, line flux has increased 3 times, peak velocity relative to rest wavelength increased from ~+30 km/s to +120 km/s
H-beta narrower, line flux unchanged, peak velocity relative to rest wavelength increased from ~+160 km/s to +320 km/s
H-gamma narrower, line flux reduced by factor 0.4, peak velocity relative to rest wavelength steady at ~+360 km/s

Hi Alun,
Cheers
Robin
That is an interesting setup. Do you have a photo? I considered doing the same with my C11 and even bought a 2nd hand 2 inch flip mirror but never got round to trying it so just have the two spectrographs ready wired up and swap them over onto the scope. How well does the EQ6 pro cope? I guess you need some counterweights on the scope to balance it.Alun Halsey wrote:Having both my Alpy 600 and Lhires III attached to C9.25 via flip mirror I managed to acquire lo and hi res spectra last night (12th).

Hi Robin,
Rather than hijack this thread I will post a few photos of my setup in the "Spectroscopes and Software" section later today. I will add though that there is a lot of weight with the combined spectroscopes/cameras and because of that I prefer to use the CEM60 rather than the EQ6.
Cheers

Re: Symbiotic recurrent nova RS Oph in ourburst !!!
Three RS Oph observations night by using Star'Ex at the direct f/5 focus of a a 200 mm Newton (8-inch).
11.84 / 08 / 2021 : infrared by using a 600 lines/mm 750 nm blaze grating (R=1750) (note evolution of OI 8446 line relative to continuum):
12.89 / 08 / 2021 : H-alpha region by using a 2400 lines/mm grating (R=17000, very similar to Lhires III)):
13.84 / 08 / 2021 : UV by using a 2400 l/mm grating (R=6000 near 4000 A):
Note the detection of an emission on the H & K Ca II core lines:
For info, the UV spectrum of Vega by using the same setup:

Re: Symbiotic recurrent nova RS Oph in ourburst !!!
Hi,
Having read a lot about RS Oph I told myself maybe I try it. Maybe, because to the South my neighbour has a Palm tree and that one covers up the whole South
OK, I was lucky to get RS Oph between two branches
I took some images on August 10 as well as on August 12. See attached image.
Now I have a question. I guess comparing images with different exposure times is not a good idea, or ? August 10 I used 60 seconds and August 12 I used 120 seconds.
Telescope is a TOA 130 with a 0.6>X reducer with a LISA @25 µm slit and CCD camera QSI520i in binning 1x3.
Thanks in advance for your comments
Rainer

Hello all,
Here is my update for the monitoring of the outburst of RS Oph with a new spectrum obtained the 13th of August at 21 h 56 TU (resolution of 520, JJ = 2459440.4137) with my Alpy 600 and an acquisition time of 375 s (25 x 15 s) :
Clear skies to all !!
