I guess comparing images with different exposure times is not a good idea, or ? August 10 I used 60 seconds and August 12 I used 120 seconds.
Hi Rainer,

Comparing different exposures is not a problem. In fact it is a good idea to increase the total exposure time as it fades so the SNR is maintained. Just scale them to 1 at the same wavelength. Or even calibrate them in absolute flux, for example using V magnitude values so you can compare the line strengths directly, as described in the document "A method of calibrating spectra in absolute flux using V magnitudes" by David Boyd on the BAA spectroscopy resources page

Olivier,

What to expect and why:
RS Oph and Symbiotic-like recurrent novae

A comprehensive text by Steve Shore to understand the event and the formation/evolution of the speactra that we obtain.

Hello all,

Here is my new update for the monitoring of the outburst of RS Oph with two new spectra obtained with my Alpy 600.
The first one, the 14th of August at 21 h 06 TU (resolution of 521, JJ = 2459441.3793) and an acquisition time of 15 min s (60 x 15 s) :

The second one, the 15th of August at 21 h 15 TU (resolution of 535, JJ = 2459442.3853) and an acquisition time of 7 min s (14 x 30 s) :

The relative intensities of the Balmer lines have increased significantly as well as those of HeI :
RS Oph on August 13th, 14th and 15th 2021
RS Oph on August 13th, 14th and 15th 2021
Overall, the relative intensities of the FeII lines seem to have changed very little.
The larger increase in the relative intensity of some FeII lines seems to be due to the presence of HeI lines blended with them (e.g. at 4923 and 5018 A) :
RS Oph on August 13th, 14th and 15th 2021 (identification of some lines from PlotSpectra)
RS Oph on August 13th, 14th and 15th 2021 (identification of some lines from PlotSpectra)
Clear skies to all !!

Hi,

Yesterday I was able to shot another series of RS Oph. Below the comparison of August 10, 12 and 15.

The big advantage of a small telescope for observation of relative bright object -> the high spectral resolution. Here Star'Ex 2400 lines/mm grating, 19 microns slit on D=65mm f/6.5 refractor (TS) at R=24000 (one hour observation), 16.80/08/2021 :
