Suspected/Misclassified Symbiotics: spectra required

V618 Sgr is certainly a fascinating target at the moment.

I've been keeping an eye on it of late. I adjusted the grating angle for the UVEX from the Hb - Ha range to the UV/Blue this week. Here is a comparison between 9 and 17 May 2022. Disregard the continuum as my reference star was not well selected. What is clear is the way the emissions have popped in the space of a week.

Also attached is spectra taken on 1 and 5 May 2022 - there is no sign of emission apart from Ha.

I continue to wrestle with getting the continuum correct in my spectra. The below graph gives a better view of the evolution of V618 Sgr. These are spectra taken on 1, 7, 8 and 17 May 2022. All have been normalised to their continuum so they are directly comparable. I have limited the graph to the region that overlaps between the spectra.

I'm pleased the 2Spot guys produced a similar result - I was concerned that I might have imaged the wrong star at first!

I hope you are all doing well!

Today, I have added 52! new literature candidates to the website: https://sirrah.troja.mff.cuni.cz/~merc/classification (to the table of classical symbiotic stars candidates; they all have status 'No spectrum'). Several of them are quite bright, some are fainter. They are located both, in the northern and southern sky. Visibility of some is getting shorter now (e.g., Her, Oph, Cyg, Vul, Lyr...). Be careful with the coordinates of the objects. In some cases I have noticed, that, e.g., SIMBAD will give you incorrect coordinates if you will query the name of the object. Coordinates in the tables are of the objects of interest.

If you will obtain the spectrum of any of these stars, please send it to François to be included to the ARAS database and spectrum together with the guider image showing the position of the slit also to me. Feel free to share your results also here on the forum .
