Does anyone know the astrophysical explanation for the broad emission seen at the base of the P Cygni lines as seen here for example ?
https://britastro.org/specdb/data_graph ... s_id=11488
(If it is doppler related the velocities are much higher than that measured from the P Cygni line absorption)
Thanks
Robin

Re: broad emission at base of P Cygni lines
Hi Robin,
I found this very interesting publication (in free access) :
P Cygni profiles atop broad emission lines
Roberto Cid Fernandes, Jr
Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Volume 305, Issue 3, May 1999, Pages 602–614,
https://doi.org/10.1046/j.1365-8711.1999.02466.x
Spectroscopically,
Christophe
