ISIS V 5.4.0

Post by Christian Buil »

Une nouvelle version de ISIS est disponible (V5.4.0) :
New vesion of ISIS available here (V5.4.0):

http://www.astrosurf.com/buil/isis/isis.htm

Lisez les nouvelles possibilités ici :
Read new features here:

http://www.astrosurf.com/buil/isis/new/release.html

Absolute flux calibration from V-band magnitude (not only from
a reference photométric point at 5556 A).

Un générateur de raies spectrales pour tester le soft et faire des
simulations.

Christian,

Thanks for the new version and the additional info about calibration. This raises a question for me.

In optimising the pixel size, is it better to choose a value which produces a well balanced set of search limits (the new ones now displayed) or the value which gives the lowest rms residual? In the case of my LISA, these are different values (6.455 vs 6.437 micron respectively). I have been using the latter up till now.

David , in normal situation, well balanced search zone and quality of calibration coincide.
Note that a small variation of the correlation of coefficient is of low importance. For example,
a variation between a RMS of 0,4 A ou 0,5 A is not very significant for the final result. Do not attach too large
importance at this performance indicator (not so easy to evaluate).

This diagnostic is more ueful for Alpy 600 user because the presence of the grism
as dispersive element can produce more disersion variations on the time (depending of setup
adjustement, temperature, ...), but can help also LISA owners.

François, tu a fait un reload des pages ? Chez moi, j'ai l'impression que cela fonctionne
aussi en FR qn'en US. Je charge bien le bon zip (V5.4.0).

My desktop (Win7 Home Premium recently installed) is acting strange. (1) The tutorial files and all fit images from other files) have "blank icons."(2) ISIS will open a file not scroll though the images (altair-1, altair-2, etc). If I have altair-1 open in the image window and select "Next" ISIS tells me that "altair-11" is not found in the image directory." ISIS 5.4.0 works OK on my laptop, so I suspect this is a problem of incorrect installation or something wrong with the computer. I do have a later version of .Net framwork than 4.0. Am I missing a program on my computer I should have? Any ideas? Very strange.

Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed,

I seem to remember vaguely something similar before (probably somewhere on the forum). An issue with ISIS either not liking too deeply nested folders or perhaps spaces in folder names? Perhaps someone else with a better memory can help

Hi Ed,

Did you get a solution to this? I am just trying to tutor someone on using ISIS. He is seeing the same thing and when I went to check my ISIS I also see the same problem. It is not a feature I use much so I am not even sure if it has ever worked for me. I am now wondering though like you if there has been a windows update somewhere which has caused a problem.

Cheers

Ed,

The solution to my problem (Thanks Christian!) was to set the right file name suffix which separates the generic file name from the number (bottom right under the "General" tab) but it sounds like yours is something different
