PlotSpectra 1.4.0 now available

Post by Tim Lester »

Hi all,

New version is available here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AvXqhKI5kEGRjEhdaQ6jaj8AHx_L

A major cleanup of the code plus the following:
- Integrated flux has been added to the measurements list.
- A right click menu item has been added for the multi region velocity plot that will normalize the displayed spectral regions.
- Normalize continuum on the main plot now duplicates the original series first.
- A menu item has been added for duplicating the active series on to the secondary Y axis (under the 'Series' menu).
- Several shortcut keys have been enabled. They are identified on the menus.
- Spectral line annotations have been totally re-worked. Vertical labels are now possible and they can be placed above or below the spectral line.
The response when zooming and scrolling is now much faster. As an example you can add all the line labels in the list (which will be overcrowded) and then zoom in and scroll to help identify lines.

Don't forget that you can open your own line list (or install your own default list (using 'settings').

Enjoy,
Tim

Tim,

Thank you very much for creating this wonderful software! It installs easy, it is fast and it is a tremendous tool in forwarding my progress as a beginner with Spectroscopy. And I can stop wasting many hours trying to get gnuPlot working with ISIS on Windows 10 as a bonus time saver. I would be grateful for any notes you might have time to post in the way of documentation. Especially regarding right click menu items "Series setup", "Normalize to active series" and "Normalize continuum".

Excellent work!

Hello Tim,

I have encountered a possible error in the "Open New List" command when trying to choose a .csv file. If I for a test choose the built-in standard file that comes with PlotSpectra, the file named Spectral_Lines.csv the PlotSpectra program crashes. If I makeake a copy of Spectral_lines.csv and then try to open it, the Spectral line column has the wave length numeric value and the Wave1 and Wave2 columns are blank. If I create a new scratch .csv file with a single row in it with a Spectral line text value and a numeric value for Wave1, PlotSpectra pops up a window with the message "Error, no data to read!"

Thanks!
Forrest

Hi Forrest,

Yes I get the same behavior. Thanks for pointing out this fairly major bug.. This was working fine on past versions so I guess my recent "clean up " of the code created a problem.
I will post here when a fix is available.
