using Astrometry.net with Star Analyser images

Post by Robin Leadbeater »

I am pleased to report that the on line astrometry system
http://nova.astrometry.net
also works with Star Analyser images, identifying the zero order images correctly
(example of the field around s5 0716+71 attached)

Good news Robin, I found I could plate solve my SA fields using The Sky X when we were looking at the T Tuari campaign a while back. Looking at the results it seems the "source extractor" finds it easy to reject the non stellar spectra. I was never any good at deciding which star was which so I always plate solve to get on a star as a matter of course now. It certainly speeds things up for me.

I don't know if you can script calls to Astronomy.net but if you can if is a step towards automating your system if you so desire.

I found that with the very small field of the Shelayk fiber guide head I needed to get the Nomad database with its 1.1 billion stars to ensure it solved though this is not an issue with the larger SA field.

Regards Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

Stephane Neveau reports that he has been using astrometry.net for some time on SA images uploaded to astrobin.com.
He is also looking at automation using Astrotortilla
