Last night, 5th November, I recorded this spectrum of UV Aur which shows strong Balmer line emission, particularly H-alpha. In previous spectra of UV Aur I have found H-beta and H-gamma in absorption.

Re: Strong Balmer line emission in UV Aur
Nice work! I need to get my LISA back in action.....LhiresIII work is addicting, but I miss the many targets I can
shoot with LISA a night compared to 2-4 max I can shoot with LhiresIII per night.
UV Aur, according to AASVO, has a period of 394.42 days and is a "M+Z And" type variable.
Here it is in the ARAS spectral database:

James : GCVS, SIMBAD ... are poor references for symbiotics
Prefer the last catalog Belczinski & al., 2000 as reference : https://aas.aanda.org/articles/aas/pdf/ ... /h2255.pdf
The red giant in the symbiotic UV Aur is a Carbon Mira (C6,2 e)
Balmer emissions can be detected
See :http://www.astronomie-amateur.fr/AtlasS ... _Lisa.html
Note that the Balmer decrement is normal, unlike classical M Giants
I think (but not sure) that the emission is linked to the pulsation phase and appears around maximum luminosity (common behavior of Balmer lines in Miras)
AAVSO (Visual) and ARAS Spectra (blue dots) Spectra from ARAS Database obtained near peak luminosity show Balmer lmine in emission More detailed study should be welcome (for instance with EW measurements)
