Astro-Python, a toolbox for astrospectrocopists

Post by Lothar Schanne »

Here I would like to introduce you to a toolkit of Python programmes that I have developed over the last eight years whilst carrying out my spectroscopic work. It comprises programmes for reducing frames from classical and Echelle spectrographs, plotting 1D spectra including line identification and modelling (single spectra and spectral series), and a wide range of methods for analysing spectral series.
You can find details of the approximately 200 programmes in the attached PDF files.

And you can download it via this link:

For those of you who haven’t used the Python programming language before, you’ll find detailed instructions on my website on how to set up Python and a working environment on your PC that’s suitable for astronomical purposes:

I hope you enjoy using the scripts. Do give them a go!

And I’d be delighted to hear your feedback on any problems, successes or suggestions.

Kind regards,

Lothar Schanne
