program to resolve merged lines

Post by Robin Leadbeater »

Does anyone know a (windows) program to resolve merged lines into separate components (Gaussians for example) ? I had a program but lost it in a computer crash and I cannot remember the name

Thanks

Robin,
I use the solver of an excel sheet - it works well
Here's an example with [OIII] and He I lines of CI Cyg

A can send you the sheet if you want

There's also FITYK

Thanks François,

I have not used FITYK before but it looks like it should work. That is a nice looking spreadsheet. Yes I would like to try it. Is it your own design?

Cheers
Robin

Hello François and all,

I would also be interested by your Excel sheet about resolving merged lines.

thanks very much in advance,

Cheers,

OK,
So here's the link to the worksheet
http://www.astronomie-amateur.fr/Docume ... Cygni.xlsm

The spectra are in sheet "Base"
A new spectrum can be added by clicking button "Importation"
The new spectrum must :
be in .dat format
respect ISIS standart for the name
be rescaled at 1A/px
(this version is for low resolution spectra)
You add the V mag line 3

In the sheet "index" , you choose your spectrum
Spectre.PNG
Spectre.PNG (5.79 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
Note : there's sometimes a bug (if the the first wavelenght changes from one spectrum to another)
The bug is fixed when you change the line (see above)

You tune the interstellar extinction. Here : E(B-V) = 0.4

Then you choose the line to analyse
raie.PNG
raie.PNG (5.7 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
The line list is in sheet "Data" : you can change the list

You adjust the cursors for continuum (red line) and integration zone (dashed lines)

The result : EW, Absolute flux appears in
Rapport.PNG
Rapport.PNG (5.46 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
By clicking on "Rapport", the sheets "Rapport G1" = EW and "RapportG2" = Absolute flux are updated
And the graphs are also updated (Graphes and Graphes2) - On these two sheets the button "Export Graphs" generate the .png files for each graph (names in column AA)

Back to Index
For gaussian fitting
Choose [OIII] 5007 line, adjust continuum, integration zone (the two lines 5007 and 5016 in the integration zone)
In cells B21:B23, D21:D23 and E21:E23, give approximative values
For instance
OIII_params_approx.PNG
OIII_params_approx.PNG (5.86 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
The result appears in the left graph :
OIII_aprox.PNG
OIII_aprox.PNG (8.3 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
Then, use the Solver (In the "Données" windows of EXCEL2010, don't know the name of the window in Englisg Version
DonneesXLS.PNG
DonneesXLS.PNG (36.77 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
The result :
OIII.PNG
OIII.PNG (8.77 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
and the values :
OIII_params.PNG
OIII_params.PNG (6.05 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
With two lines, they are to be copied manually in Sheets Rapport (I've to build a macro ...)

You can also fit other lines
For instance, H alpha lines in symbiotic are the sum of two gaussian (a broad one for the piedestal and anarrower for he main component)
Ha.PNG
Ha.PNG (8.84 KiB) Viewed 7651 times
and
Ha_Param.PNG
Ha_Param.PNG (6.07 KiB) Viewed 7651 times

Martin
